What is the Tribulation?

The Revelation details the Tribulation, which is a seven-year period of wars, plagues, famines, earthquakes, and disasters.

It ends in the Battle of Armageddon, and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.¬† The earth was formed in seven days and will be destroyed and judged in seven years. Seven is God’s number of completion and we see the number seven in Genesis as the days of the creation and seven years as the number of years of¬†judgments¬†onto the earth that end in its destruction.¬†

In addition to the book of Revelation detailing the events of the Tribulation, Jesus elaborates on the Tribulation as well as brief mentions by the apostles. The Tribulation is further elaborated on in the various books of Prophets, specifically the book of Daniel, Joel, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Zechariah, Isaiah and within other books of the Bible.   Each detail adds more detail and presents a detailed account of the seven year Tribulation period.  The Tribulation is so detailed in the Bible that even the events leading to the battle of Armageddon is outlined.  .

The word “Tribulation” is used by Evangelical Christians to describe the seven year outlined in the book of Revelation and the books of Daniel and it was derived from Jesus’s forecast of the abomination of desolation, which is the marking point that divides the Tribulation into the Great Tribulation, which occurs during the second half three and a half year time period. ¬† Jesus stated, in Matthew 24:21 that once the abomination of desolation occurs “For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.” From this statement came the term Tribulation to describe the earth’s final¬†catastrophic¬†events that end in the destruction of¬†the earth and the second coming of Jesus Christ.¬†
