The European Union has its own language that European politicians understand. Inside the 'EU bubble,' there is a variety of terms that sound like alien-speak to the average listener. The next term is “SUBSIDIARITY”
This EU legal term originated as a core pillar of Catholic social teaching. Pope Leo XIII (1891): In his landmark encyclical Rerum Novarum, the Pope addressed the harsh conditions of the Industrial Revolution. He argued that the state should not absorb the individual or the family. He asserted that both possess a natural right to exist and govern themselves prior to the state. In 1931 Pople Piux XI with the rise of Fascism, Nazism and Communism stated, that it is a "grave evil" and a "disturbance of right order" for a larger, higher organization to take over tasks that lesser, subordinate communities can perform on their own.
The EU’s Architechs Robert Schuman, Alcide De Gasperi and Konrad Adenauer were devout Catholics influenced by Catholic teachings. They adopted the concept of subsidiarity as a guiding principle of EU unity, It was written into EU law in the Maastricht treaty in 1992.
