You will hear this historical and ongoing political movement referenced when discussing how the push for integration was and is organized from the ground up. In a nutshell, the European Movement International is a historic network—founded in the wake of WWII by figures like Winston Churchill and Altiero Spinelli at the 1948 Congress of The Hague—dedicated to advocating for a united, federal Europe. The movement is active in seeing that the Union evolves according to the federal blueprint.

 

For decades, it has operated as an elite-backed pressure group pushing national governments to surrender more sovereignty to Brussels.
