"The European Project" Decoded: European Union Politics Terms

 


The European Union has its own language that European politicians understand. Inside the 'EU bubble,' there is a variety of terms that sound like alien-speak to the average listener. In this series, we are going to decode these terms one by one, so that you too can understand the EU’s special language—and this will give you a greater understanding of the EU itself." The next term is “faceless bureaucrat”

You will hear this phrase constantly invoked by diplomats and historians as shorthand for the evolving European Union. In a nutshell, the European project refers to the ongoing political experiment of European integration that began after the Second World War, beginning with the European Coal and Steel Community and then the Treaty or Rome, designed to bind nations together economically and politically so that war between European neighbors would become materially impossible. Moreover moving them towards a federal union.
